A Quick Trip to Boston to Celebrate Shelly's Realtor of the Year Award

In November 2018, Shelly and I made a trip to Boston for her National Association of Realtors conference.  Shelly was representing Maryland as the Realtor of the Year.  While there we had a great tour of Fenway Park, visited the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, and walked the Freedom Trail.  We also had a wonderful visit with Shelly's cousins from her mother's side.

We stayed at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel.  It was nice accommodations and two blocks from the convention center, so we were able to easily get to activities.  We walked to a small seafood market called the Yankee Lobster Company, and we had the best lobster rolls.  There's only 6 - 7 tables, and very informal.  But if you're in the waterfront area, I recommend them for lunch.

Our first full tour day, we went to Fenway Park.  We had a very knowledgeable and lively guide who made the tour very enjoyable.  As a New York Yankee fan, I always root against the Red Sox.  However, Fenway Park is a magical place with tremendous history.  If you're in traveling to Boston, take this tour.

We also toured the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library.  The library told the story of Kennedy, growing up in privilege, but spending his life in public service giving back to others.

We also walked the Freedom Trail which traces our nation's history of events leading up to and following the Revolutionary War.

Shelly found several cousins in the Boston area through Ancestry.com DNA matches.  While we were in Boston, we had a family reunion with cousins from the Naughton descendants.  Shelly's cousins include Peggy Thomas, Ginny Thomas Koulopoulos, Mary Ann Fontaine, Stephan McCarthy, and Eileen Bailey Walsh.  We exchanged information on our lives and family, and had a wonderful lunch.

Our last night in Boston, we had a great dinner at the Bastille Kitchen.  The salmon and fillet were delicious.

We'll be planning another trip to Boston and Rhode Island to do some genealogy research, see some of Shelly ancestor's landmarks, and hopefully the Naughton cousins again.
