A Private Tour of the National Gallery of Art

Writer: Ken MurrayKen Murray

Shelly and I took a private tour of the National Gallery of Art. A guide showed us and explained about 20 paintings including those by Leonardo, Raphael, Monet, and Van Gogh. It was quite interesting to learn about the history and meaning of each painting. We learned some things to better appreciate the art. I really appreciate the museums and galleries in Washington DC. It's amazing to take a drive or metro to a gallery and see artwork from the masters for free. Below are some pictures of a bit of what we saw, but they don't do the art justice.

The Artist's Garden at Vétheuil by Claude Monet

Circe and Her Lovers in a Landscape by Dosso Dossi

Ginevra de' Benci by Leonardo da Vinci

The Girl with the Red Hat by Johannes Vermeer

Roses by Vincent Van Gogh

Self Portrait by Rembrandt van Rijn

Laocoön by El Greco

Christ at the Sea of Galilee by Jacopo Tintoretto

The Alba Madonna by Raphael
